Hatin on Haters

Has your pride ever been injured following personal success due to a person who feels the need to tear you down?
Have you ever been victorious, yet felt unable to celebrate because someone proclaims you don’t deserve it?

Have you ever felt the more you prosper, the more people want to chastise you for it?

Don’t be ridiculous, everything you accomplish is yours to cherish, and the people who want to take it from you are nothing more than haters.
A hater is a person who tends to seek out the negative in a situation, drilling cynicism into the head of anyone who will listen just so they can feel better about themselves. Ordinarily, I deal with these types of people through ignorance – paying zero acknowledgment to their very existence. However, this time, and this time only, I’m going to address them. So all the haters, drink some “Haterade” and listen up.
Hate is an ugly, ugly thing. It tears apart friendships, starts wars and causes people to do unforgivable things. The scary part is that hate can so easily be developed, and it only takes a little bit of hatred to cause something terrible.
Haters are miserable people, that is why they are so negative toward everything around them. They are unhappy with their own situation for whatever reason, and instead of focusing their energy on how to improve it, they take it out by bringing down those around them who are feeling success. If you feel like this article is referring to you, it’s because it probably is. But rather than get upset about it, really dissect why you feel the need to rain on other people’s parade. Why does self-pride in your fellow man instill such envy and resentment?
Where does the hate stem from? Jealousy, self-loathing, spite, bitterness – these are negative character traits everyone has that can rear their ugly heads without realizing it. You might witness someone else’s success and immediately think, “Why should they get that? I deserve that! What has he/she done that I haven’t?”
I think we’ve all been guilty of these thoughts, myself included. It’s understandable. Sometimes when things get tough we as a society dislike seeing others do what we haven’t been able to accomplish, and selfish thoughts result.
Instead of wondering why you aren’t getting what they are, legitimately ask yourself, “What do they have that I don’t? What has this person been doing that I need to do?”
Perhaps this person has put in a lot of work and has earned what they receive, and maybe you could learn something from them. Rather than being spiteful for their victory, be proud and follow their example, in due time it might be your victory of which to be proud.

Dealing with hate can be tough. It can make your accomplishments feel diminished. Rather than being proud of what has gone right you unfairly nit-pick at what might be wrong. A critical eye never hurts, but when it becomes a malicious attack it certainly can.

The key is to be happy with your own accomplishments and understand that no one person’s hatred can take away what you’ve earned. As a very successful on-air personality once told me, “The more you succeed, the more people will try to bring you down. The important thing is to have pride and confidence in yourself to continue moving upward. Surround yourself with positive energy and keep doing your best.”

Before making judgments on anyone, always have respect for your fellow man, first and foremost. You might be a person who feels ultimate respect is earned, but realize that each person lives their own life. They are doing what they need to do to handle their business and make something of their lives. Never forget that and always hold a level of respect for it, just as you would want for yourself. If you’re good to people, that’s one more good person in the world.

The haters can see you. Just smile and don’t look back. Let them realize “I might hear you, but I don’t see you and I’m certainly not listening.”
